We dig, dig, dig .....

OK, so now back to my travels. From Nafplion the Guv drove to Mycenae, now this place is pretty old (even older the than Guv!). You're going to have to click my photo to be able to see the place though. I think by what I heard what stands now was built around 1350BC, but there have been finds by you humans who dig around these places dating back to 3500BC. and that's definitely older than the bones I find when I do a dig around the garden !

Oxi Rosie........
Now you may have just read the Guv's posting on his Facebook page about OXI DAY here in Greece. It is indeed a day of big celebrations and nearly every town has a big parade.....
It's certainly a Greek word I know all too well, in fact its one I wish the Guv had never learnt! When I am in the poppymobile the Guv often shouts "Oxi Rosie!" when I am just starting to enjoy a good barking session; when I am having a good sniff at some messy thing on the ground the Guv shouts "Oxi Rosie" ; the call "Oxi Rosie" also goes out when I am having fun chasing after cats or the old ladies in the village when they are carrying walking sticks!
Still I do also get lots of "Kala, kala" from my people as well but its far less fun being good...........

Is it that dangerous?
On the drive from Tripoli to Argos I noticed this road side shrine with a small covered area at the side, ideal for a picnic stop the Misses said. Mmmmm its needs to be ideal for a Rosie sniff around stop I thought!
Whilst my people eat their sandwiches and had a drink, loads and loads of other people in cars and trucks pulled up and went into the shrine to say a few prayers, then drove off again within minutes........now I thought to myself if the road ahead is that bad I think I might need travel sickness pills !

Nafplion again......

Now I remember coming to this place before when my people met up with some friends who were on a cruise. There was a cruise liner in the harbour this time also, but no where near as big as the ship last year.
As my people and I walked the streets I met a few other canines and remained on my best behaviour as the Guv gets real grumpy if I bark at other dogs. Mind you I have to put up with him talking to other humans!
I heard the Misses say this was one of her most favourite places in our part of Greece as there were lots of nice shops and terraces to have coffee on, but I noticed the Guv held on to the money !
Around the town there was a lot of "green space" which was ideal for me and loads of parking for the poppymobile, so much so even the Misses could have parked it!

It all erupted
The Guv drove all around Methana, right up to the top of the biggest volcano as Methana has some 30 volcanic eruption centres. Don't think we had to worry too much though as the last eruption of this volcano was in 230 BC.
I heard my people say we were then off to the "Three Bells", now I thought that meant a visit to the local pub, I got it wrong again !
We did however stop at a small taverna owned by a Danish couple for a morning break, mind you there was nothing there for dogs except a few cats and this passing mule to bark at......

Smelly, smelly.....

From where we were staying in Kallonis we could see the town of Methana from our apartment balcony and to get to it we went in the poppymobile along a short "spit" of land. Now as you can see from the photograph above it looks a beautiful place, but it has a BIG SECRET........
The hot sulphur springs that rise both freely in the sea and that you humans have built baths for can reach temperatures between 20-37 C. Besides the big bath houses above, there are small thermal bath houses like the Baths of Pausanias shown below.....
Well my nose is far more sensitive than your human noses
so I went well prepared

Another REX !
As I was saying yesterday I made a few friends at Kallonis, this is REX and in the photo below Rex and the guy he looks after who owns the apartments. Mind you despite being a big dog he was a bit of a wimp as at first he ran away from me!
Another canine I met in Kallonis is in the photo below, again as I said yesterday he was the dog who did not want to be friendly with me...(do I care uh!)...mind you he had been injured and could not use one of his rear legs so I guess he felt a bit threatened. I wonder how he stays stood up when he pees?
This is Rex's home that he allowed me and my housekeepers to stay in for a few days. Not bad either inside, lots of room and good safe parking behind locked gates for the poppymobile.

Another sea view
After a quick drive around Tripoli (the Guv says not to be recommended), we headed to our accommodation in the small coastal village of Kallonis. Now as you can see the place the Guv had booked was right on the seafront, so I was well pleased as this meant lots of seaside walks!
During my walks I met quite a few other canines, all were friendly except for one! Also at our apartment the owners were cared for by a young Alsation type dog called Rex (common name that isn't it?). I'll introduce you to Rex and the guy he looks after tomorrow.....

We set off to Argos...
Well I've sorted all those photographs the Misses took on our last trip, so I'm back! As you can see I always take an interest in my outings in the "poppymobile" and the Guv has me safely seat belted in with a special harness for my safety. Mind you that does not stop my barking at other canines as we pass, much to the Guv's annoyance.
Our trip took us from our home near Kalamata to Tripoli, Argos (no not the catalogue shop!), Naplio, Epidavros & Poros. In the next days I'll show you some of the Misses photo's and of course some of me !!!!!
This is at Argos, the old fortifications on the hill

On our way home......
Another place we went to on our journey was called "Areopoli" and although the Guv and Misses have been there before it was my first time. I accompanied the Guv on a look around the square.
Met a few canine friends on the walk-a-bout and after I had a brief chat they came back to the "poppymobile" with us. Now I draw the line at the Guv bringing them back to my home, but I did allow him to give some of my food to them.
I'll be missing for a few days now as we are off on another adventure......
