A sunny morning out
click photo to enlarge
This morning it was off to Kalamata with my people, that meant a run-a-around a different beach area with "no nasties" for me to see. Quiet a nice sunny morning as well so after shopping we went for breakfast at the yacht club, mind you I never got anything! Still I know my people bought me lots of goodies for Christmas, and I don't have long to wait now (woof).....

A sad day.....
A bit sad this morning after the morning beach walk. Whilst it was a good morning here in Greece, on my way back to the "poppymobile" I came across a local canine lying in the grass. I ran up to greet him but found he did not move and on closer inspection he was not breathing! I barked and barked and the Guv came running but I was hauled away and told to get in the poppymobile......
I then heard the Guv tell the Misses the dog had been poisoned.
I just know no-one will come and bury him, and the sick human who laid the poison will once again get away with it.........
The bright sunny day suddenly became mentally very overcast...............

Be prepared...and know how
I thought today I would address my blog to all the people who my canine friends look after in the UK and more northern climes that are likely to suffer bad weather soon......
With the snow and ice expected the
roads are likely to be gritted. If the friend who looks after you walks on gritted roads or
paths then please make sure... their paws are washed by dipping their feet
in fresh warm water once at home.
Every year hundreds of my canine friends become seriously ill and in some cases die because of the rock salt and
antifreeze being used during the cold snap. Dogs and cats walk through the
substances left by gritters trying to clear roads and human tin box drivers defrosting
their windscreens which they then lick off their paws and ingest. Consuming
rock salt can cause dehydration, liver failure and pancreatitis while
antifreeze contains the chemical ethylene glycol which can cause kidney failure
and death when consumed. Please be vigilant and treat your best friend to a foot bath
after being outside.

Learn to say Hello....γεια σας.
I was out with the Guv the other day and as normal he stopped to have a coffee in the human eating place in Kalamata. Now being the good looking dog I am I often attract attention and very often this is from young humans. It never fails to amaze me just how many of the younger humans do not know how to approach us dogs, so for this reason I asked the Guv to try and translate the leaflet below so you can share it.....
(mind you I'm not too sure about his translations......)

If dogs could talk
There are times when us canines do things we really are sorry about, the problem is some of you humans just don't understand our apologies.....so I found this short video to help you understand.....(click on the link below)

I'm poorly
I am not feeling to well today. Whilst I did go out this morning for my daily beach run-a-bout, and it was a beautiful morning, in fact so warm the Guv never had to put a coat on,. On our return the Guv forced me to take some "worming tablets" and I DON"T LIKE THEM......He has this sadistic streak in him and every three months he does the same. Try as I might not to swallow he just will not let me spit them out!
So I'm just going to sleep this off and dream about how I can get my own back on him.....

A winter warning
I was looking at the Guv's Facebook photo yesterday (the big one at the top of his page not the Guv's photo on the left....that's too much to ask !), and I thought with winter snows about many of you humans will be putting antifreeze in your tin boxes on wheels.....
Now not all of my canine friends, and actually most of my feline friends (because cats are far more dull anyway), can read. Also some of you humans do not realise that antifreeze is REALLY poisonous for us. Now I know you would not intentionally leave it around, but you see its sweet smell and flavour can really be an attraction, sort of like the Guv leaving chocolates on the table and expecting the Misses not to eat them (lol). Leaving things in easy reach can be SO TEMPING.......so KEEP IT SAFE........

Its a boar
Some of you will know a long, long time ago when the Guv was young he went to college in London just around the corner from Smithfield meat market. Well when there he studied some sort of useless human things but also spent time taking part in studies of meat pricing and butchery.......now that was far more useful for when he has to sort my dinners out!
In any case he was telling the Misses about the parade of Butchers that occurs each year at this time. You see this year is the sixtieth anniversary of the revival of this arcane tradition which has its origin in 1343 when the Lord Mayor, John Hamond, granted the Butchers of the City of London use of a piece of land by the Fleet River, where they could slaughter and clean their beasts, for the token yearly payment of a Boar’s Head at Christmas.
When the Guv was there the boars head was real meat (now that's what would interest me), however today because of stupid human health & safety laws the butchers have to parade a plastic head.......I wonder if it squeaks if I bite it?

Well blow me!
Its was certainly a bit windy during my walk today, but still quite warm. As the Guv was going to the tooth doctor (or was it tooth fairy, well something like that) my run was on West Beach instead of the normal local beaches. Whilst we were there the Guv actually had the cheek to give away some of my food! Still perhaps I should not complain as the canine he gave it to was a stray, not bad looking either, I think the Guv is trying to find someone to adopt him.
( the stray that is, no one would want the Guv !)

Just say NO !
Sniffing around a bit over the last few days I detect humans baking lots of good tasting human food. Now some of you will know that things like raisins and other dried fruit are poisonousness to us canines, but not all my friends are as cautious as I am when they eat and they don't stop to think.....they just devour!
So in today's blog I am going to ask all my human readers to be extra careful in the lead up and during this seasons celebrations.
Even if your well loved pet begs saying NO is the kindest thing to do..

Its all over.....
Well I guess there are not going to be any more holidays this year for my people and me as the Guv has put the human kennel on wheels back in its storage position. Mind you the Guv has a very clever toy that makes the human kennel move on its own. He seems to have a load of these magic boxes as he has one for the electric picture box, one for the cold air blowers in the house and even one that opens and closes the metal gates to my house. I bet if he could get one to make me work and do things he would !!!!

Don't get stuck !
I told you yesterday about our visit to Gaia Rescue Station over at Stoupa and the Gaia dog I had a chat with but I forgot to show you a photo of her. The problem was the humans would not let me in or her out of the compound so we had to have a chat like some of you humans do "over the garden fence"...or that is in our case "under the garden fence" !

I could be a "rescue" mascot
Quite a long day out for me today as after my morning beach run-a-bout my people went to Stoupa and met some friends for breakfast. I know they liked me because they told the Guv they always read my blog. Mind you during breakfast there were a few pesky felines trying to muscle in......soon sorted those I can tell you! Even so the Misses had the cheek to feed them some of her sausage and bacon pieces in front of me! I'll get my own back on her, next time I get muddy feet I'll run around her kitchen.
So after their breakfast we went to Gaia (a voluntary rescue organisation that does excellent work in the area) as the Guv had a piece of equipment to donate to them. The Guv had a good look around but I was far more interested in a young dog they had there and of course the fire tenders. I liked the red one the best, it was just like the "poppymobile".......

Was that "dear" or "deer"
As I have said a few times before being Greek I do find this English language rather difficult to master. On our way back from the human food market yesterday the Guv looked at the Misses and said "We'll feed dear on the way home". As he never calls the Misses "dear" I thought mmmmm he's getting soft, and also as you will understand I thought he meant they would go somewhere to eat. W R O N G !!!!
We end up looking and feeding these strange creatures that the Misses seems to like and I learn that they are called DEER. Then I get to understand the the male deer is called a STAG, the female deer a DOE, the young are FAWN and male young are referred to as BUCKS.
Now up until then I thought DEER is what the Guv always tells the Misses something is when she buys new clothes, a STAG was what the Guv had before his life changed for good, DOE was what he always said he never had enough of, FAWN was just a colour or what I done to get to stay with my people, and a young BUCK is what the Misses dreamt about !

I thought I was being sold!
Two beach walks in one day, today! As normal I got taken out for the beach walk on the local beach but then the Misses said " Off to market" Panic, I did panic I thought she was going to sell me !!!!!
I need not had worried as it was just off to the human food market where my people bought a few things, you know the sort veggies you humans eat.
However my luck was also in as the Guv and I went on the beach at Kalo Nero. I had been there a few times before, in fact we all stayed there once in a human kennel for a few days on holiday.
The Guv also bought himself this smart clock for the kennel the "poppymobile" is kept in, I think it's just because the Misses keeps saying he spends too much time in that garage!

My new friend...
I told you yesterday just how bored I got on the journey to Bari in Italy. The good part was at the end of the trip the Guv stayed at a camp site we had used before, however since we had stayed there in 2012 the owners had acquired a new addition to their family.
In the morning the Guv let my new friend come with us for the early beach run-a-bout. We both had a great time racing each other, mind you I think I need to loose a bit of weight, he out-ran me ! (my new canine friend, not the Guv!!!!)

Its too long !
Now as much as I like going out in the "poppymobile" sometimes the journey is just too long! The Guv always makes sure I get stops along the way to "do things" however the drive all the way from the top of Italy to nearly the bottom was BORING.
You see the Guv chooses to get the floating bath tub that swallows cars and trucks from Bari to Greece as the sea trip is only around 9 hours and he says its better for me, however I think next time he is thinking of changing the plans as I know he also got fed up during the drive.........

St Tropez and all that....
So now I have seen the beaches in St Tropez & St Maxine and to a Greek mutt like me they look the same as the ones I live near in Greece, sand and sea. Mind you I will say the humans here seem to have lots of money as some of bath tubs are a bit luxurious. For me I'll stick with the ones in the first photo below as they look the same as what I see in Petalidi.......and save the Guv some money so he can buy me more treats!

Its too hot
Sometimes my people amaze me! I thought we went to the U.K. this summer to avoid some of the heat in my home country of Greece. Now they take me to the Cote d' Azure and yesterday the temperate was rose to 31C
Just a few minutes on the beach for the Guv to take my photo and I was back in the "poppymobile" with the cool air, I can tell you........
