Happy New Year

Sorry I have not posted much on my blog over the few days, but you see not only have I had to look after my people because they have not been very well, especially the Misses, but also we have some problems with the internet.

It looks like it's going to be a few days before we get back to normal, so while I have a decent connection I want to wish all my canine and human friends

 A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR

He's gone.....

Last night another night as a watchdog,
And it was Christmas Eve.
The people are sleeping all cosy in bed
While I’m guarding the stockings and tree.

What’s that now--footsteps on the rooftop?
Could it be a cat or a mouse?
Who’s this down the chimney?
A thief with a beard--
And a big sack for robin the house?

I’m barking I’m growling I’m bitting his butt.
He howls and jumps back in his sleigh.
I scare his strange horses, they leap in the air.
I’ve frightened the whole bunch away.

Now the house is all peaceful and quiet again,
The stockings are safe as can be.
Won’t the Guv be glad when he wakes up tomorrow
And see how I’ve guarded the tree.

Who is he ?

I'm going to bed early because I'm told Santa will come when I am asleep,
but being a good guard dog he won't get in !!

It's nearly Dog-mas

Twas the night before Dog-mas, when all through the pound, Not a puppy was yelping or playing around. Their leashes were hung by their kennels with care, In hopes that St. Bernard would soon find them there.
The stray dogs were curled up all snug in their beds, While visions of doggie treats danced in their heads. Max in his collar, curled up in a wrap, had tucked in his tail for a midwinter’s nap.
When outside the room there arose such a clatter, My ears perked right up to hear what was the matter. Away to the window I jumped up with glee, And barked at the shadows that were cast by a tree.
The glow from the moon changed night into day, And started me thinking, “Woof, woof, time to play”. When, what with my puppy-dog eyes did I see, But a splendid dog-sled, led by doggies like me!
With a regal furred driver, commanding, not stern. I yelped to the others, “That must be St. Bern”! More rapid than greyhounds, our saviors they came, And we barked and we howled and called them by name.
“There’s Duchess! There’s King! fat Chance, and bare Buffy! On Fido, On Scooter! On Rover, and Scruffy! Go by the red hydrant and run past those trees! Nothing can stop you, not even some fleas!”
As puppies at play chase after a stick And race to their masters so lovely and quick, So out in the field his canines all flew, Catching the Frisbees that St. Bernard threw.
And then in an instant I heard at the door The scratching and clawing of each little paw…. As I pulled in my nose and was turning around, Through the door St. Bernard came in with a bound!
He was dressed all in fur from his head to his tail, His wood cask adorned with an icing of hail; A bag of chew toys he had brought in with him, And his mouth was turned up in what looked like a grin.
His eyes, how they twinkled! His ears flopped, how merry! His coat shone like crystal, his nose like a cherry! His big sloppy mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the fur on his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a bone he held tight in his teeth, And his collar encircled his neck like a wreath. He had a large face and a furry round belly, That shook when he barked, like a bowlful of jelly. He was fluffy and plump, a big cuddly old pooch And I laughed when I saw him and gave him a smooch!
A wink of his eye and a wag of his tail; We knew right away they'd have homes without fail. He howled not a howl, but went straight to his deed, And took down their leashes that soon they would need.
He opened the door and families stood there, With children, all smiling, and much love to spare. He leapt to his sled, to his team gave a call, And away they all flew as if chasing a ball. But I heard him exclaim, as he chewed on a bone: “Happy Dog-mas to all and to all a good home!”

The Great Escape

I got left at home this morning after my early morning run-a-bout. Mind you I was a bit tired as instead of the beach we went into the olive groves and there were lots of new smells for me to investigate.  I did not however know my people were going to visit other canines!

Some of my canine friends do not know when they are well off. Housed and fed instead of struggling and straying on the streets.  In saying that you have to be impressed with the climbing skills of this pup.

I think she was trying to get away from the other 160+ strays this kind human looks after

Under attack !

I'd just got back from my morning beach walk, had a quick look around my garden and came under attack. Hundreds of these feathered pests in my air space here in Greece.  Think they're probably Turkish and been taking lessons from Erdogan's air force!

The cat.....

How to Wash the Cat

First add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and have both lids lifted.

Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape).

CAUTION!!!!!
Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for any purchase they can find.

Flush the toilet three or four times.

Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.

Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids. The now-clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself.

As an added bonus you also get a very clean toilet!

I'm staying here!

Well winter has arrived in Greece (today at least) with a low 4C temperature this morning and guess what......yes the central heating boiler broke down yesterday!
I've decided to stay in my basket until the Guv gets it fixed

Told off...

Who me, now would I do that?
Yep I got really told off this morning on the beach run-a-bout, just because I rolled in fox poo !

Off to market.....

With good weather planned and temperatures around 18C my people decided to take me to market.  Well not to sell me of course but to buy some human food stuff.  Mind you there were no "fat pigs" to be bought !

Later it was off to Kalo Nero for a good run-a-around on the beach,
even the "poppymobile" was allowed to join in

The of course the Guv had to stop for fluid replacement
We often stop here though, I'm told they have good human cakes !
But I'm not allowed to taste them !

A day out...

A bit of a long drive around today after the morning beach walk at Petalidi.  My people decided it was a trip to Pylos via Ag Andreas , Koroni & Methoni and that of course means I get extra run-a-bouts!

You know after all these years I'm getting used to having my photo taken,
I wonder if I autograph them I could sell them and be famous (woof, woof)

No barking news....

Normal beach walk this morning, not much more to bark at you about !

Tooth doctor....

I thought today I would tell you about the Guv.  You see over the last few weeks I have had to get him to go to the human tooth doctor.  As you can see sometimes I have to be a bit insistent!

I know when he gets there he is taken care of as he speaks very
highly of the skill of the lady who looks after his teeth.

Now as you can see it's very a nice practice, but I thought I'd buy him some of these to help him keep his teeth better, they must be good because I use them !

Into the hills....

Well this morning was different!  First a beach walk as normal then my people took me into the hills and I had another walk around.  At least with the Guv and the Misses I know I am safe unlike many other Greek canines who get taken into the hills and "dumped".  In fact on the way home we seen that had happened to a black boxer type canine, he was just waiting at the side of the road I expect hoping his people would come back for him.

The Guv then drove all the way to Stoupa where we stopped for breakfast. I never get anything when we go out but the Misses always saves something for me which I have on my return home......

First snows......

Well at least the thunder and rain has stopped and after I returned from my beach walk I can rest easy on my sun-lounger.  Mind you it was a bit chilly on the beach his morning even with all my fur, temperatures of 5 C are not good for a Greek dog. We can see the first snows on the Taygetos mountains opposite now, glad I'm not up there !

Much better now though a good 20 C on my balcony behind the tentas

Cats & dogs.....

It's that time of year in Greece when we have very bad thunderstorms with rain that could drowned a cat in seconds ( Yay ).... I heard the Misses tell the Guv it was raining cats & dogs, but I looked everywhere outside, got soaked and could not find any!
Now to stop the Guv being afraid of the thunder as you can see I looked after him in the basement
(he tells people it's me that scared of thunder though)

It's oil ended up bottled....

Well this is the last bit of my blog about olive oil.

Looks a bit messy to me

Tomorrow I'll tell you about the massive thunderstorms we have had
and how I had to protect my people !

Oil in a days work...

So as I promised in my previous blog here are some screen shots of the oil press in Messinias.  Near my pad there are quite a few and they all are rapidly filling up with sacks of olives waiting to be pressed.

I'll show you some more tomorrow !

It's olive time

One of the Guv's friends posted online a video of the locals picking the olives and I thought "I don't recall ever showing my friends the making of oil".  So my blog today shows you ME in the olive grove near my house and a screen shot of locals from Messini collecting the olives.

I'll show you inside the olive press on my next posting

It's hard work

The only thing about being a Greek dog is you have to stick to the Greek working day.  Up early (and I always am), but then being "forced" to stick to Greek quiet time and having to siesta from 1430hrs to 1700hrs (at least!) Especially on days like today when the balcony is over 20C  ðŸ˜Š

Monday, 21 November 2016

Sun arise, early in the morning.....

Normal start to the day for me here in Greece with a very early morning walk on the beach as the Misses still thinks it's going to rain.  Now the Guv has left the poppymobile in such a position I know he's going out again, I've got to find a way to make him take me with him!

Sunday, 20 November 2016

No rain yet.....

Well the Misses said it was going to rain last night and it didn't.  So up early this morning for my morning run-a-bout and temperatures had already reached into double figures.  Now the Guv has no excuse for not doing a bit of gardening!

Lots of water

When I was  staying at my other pad in France here in Greece there was a very big storm that caused lots of flooding, you may recall I posted some photographs of some of the damage on the beaches some weeks back.  Well the humans that work for the local council have now widened the rivers that take water from the hills to the sea by clearing the banks, but it looks to me as if they forgot to dig out the bit that goes into the sea and it's flooded the farmers fields!
